Getting Started with IF functions in Excel
The IF function is one of the most popular and powerful functions in Excel. The IF function has three arguments. Two of the arguments are optional.
The IF function is **=IF(logical test, value if true, value if false)**
Examples of the IF function
- I want to give a bonus to sale reps if they brought in over 350,000. - I only want to see the word Pass if the student's grade was over 70. - You get 3 weeks vacation if you have over 4 years of service.
What makes the IF function so powerful is it does a comparison for you. I don't have to look at the data and decide myself. So an IF statement can have two results. The first result is if your comparison is True, the second if your comparison is False.
